Painting room with half new plaster half not...

Post by dacoops »

Hi All

Very quick question - how do I tackle painting rooms that have some walls with fresh plaster (requiring a mist coat etc) and the other walls already having been painted previously? Do I just sort of prep the normal painted walls/sand/wash etc, and then do the mist coat on everything or what? I'm worried about putting an uneven number of base coats on one wall than another wall. Is this something that doesn't really matter?

Any help as always much appreciated!

Mist coat the unpainted plastered walls and any filled areas. You don't have to worry about the number of coats being different but if you are making a change of colour on the painted walls they may need an extra coat. Use a quality "trade" paint and good roller sleeves and all maybe well in two coats.
