Issue with monsoon 3.0 twin bar pump, tap or pipes?

Post by rosielx »

It's a long story. I have an 11 year old monsoon 3.0 twin bar pump which runs a bath/shower and an ensuite shower. Working perfectly until this morning :(. The hot water comes from a tank in airing cupboard seperate ftom heating system.

Story begins last week i think. Our boot immersion heating element failed and tripped the rcd. Pump is on same trip. Electrician confirmed fault and isolated electrics. Pump was left switched off without power.

Yesterday electrician drained hot water tank by 1/3rd and replaced immersion. Ran taps to clear pipes. Immersion set at 60 degrees. Pump back on. Ran bath. All is well.

This morning turned on bath mixer tap. No water pump quiet/off. Tried again. Pump came on water has strong flow but very hot. Tried bath shower no water then comes in strong. Ensuite is fine. Fault in bathroom is intermittant. Once running pump stays on.

As water was so hot electrician came back and reduced thermostat from 60 to 55 degrees. Temp to bath now ok. Pump still odd sometimes.

Manufacturer on phone says pump is fine and if must be a blockage or air lock. My taps are not splutteringand all run well.

Plumber over the phone says it's the pump and not a blockage or air lock.

Electrician says it could be the mixer tap has been turned around too far and is broken effecting water supply bath and shower. Ensuite is fine.

If anyone can save my sanity after seven hours on the phone going around in circles would appreciate it. Manufacturers want £200 plus just to come out. Tried contacting local plumbers but no replies :(.

Tell more: where does the immersion tank get its water from mains or a tank above?
Where does the pump get its cold water supply from?
Likely scenarios is an air lock or debris from the draining action has gotten into the pump line or inline filter or a shut off valve has not been opened fully.

The immersion tank gets it's water supply from a feeder tank in the attic. The cold water supplt is from the mains supply. The immersion tank was only 1/3rd drained to replace immersion. All taps were run for around ten minutes after spluttering had stopped. We do know that the mixer tap is likely to be faulty. The pump seems to be getting a bit better but would appreciate advice as the pump repair company want £200 for a call out :(

Probably just a bit of air has got into the pipework... which will work it's way out without intervention. Run the shower fully cold for a few minutes then the same on fully hot.

If still an issue then report back.
