Cold tap water has brown bits - pipes or supplier?

Post by johnplumb »

For the last couple of weeks my cold water has had particulates, small flakey light brown pieces between 1-3mm.. we're talking upto 10 pieces per glass at a guess. Hot water tap doesn't seem to be affected.

New combi boiler (water tank removed) as of 3 months ago, nothing noticed until 2-3 weeks ago in a water filter jug as pictured.

What's the likely cause of this and what should I be looking at first? Currently in contact with water company but no visit yet.

Thanks

do neighbours have the same problem?
any steel pipework or lead in your c/w supplies?
its probly connected with the new boiler work.
remove and clean any aerators and run full pressure for a few mins.
