Can oiled oak floor be stained?
And I don't mean stained as in have stains. I mean made darker. I got engineered wood (top layer oak) flooring in the hallway but it's light brown/yellow colour and I wanted very dark brown. Can it be made dark by simply staining it but without sanding?

Re: Can oiled oak floor be stained?
If you sand it back far enough, or neutralise the oil.
But in my experience and reality, nope.
I would light sand it, then re-oil with a stained oil to your taste.
Find a specialist independent wood place I they will guide you, even just to supply few bottles of oil and treatment.
They love helping people that want decent advice.

You can rent a floor sander for a day for very cheap (plus a deposit). Try Aplant.

Re: Can oiled oak floor be stained?
I was hoping there was some staining chemical that would neutralise the oil and stain at the same time. But if not I'll just leave it as it is. Maybe one day in the future when I nothing better to do. Thanks for the replies!

Re: Can oiled oak floor be stained?
You can get oil, that is dyed, so similar effect to stained which will pretty much do what you want.
Just follow the instructions on cleaning old floor 1st, might have old impurities that will not allow the dyed oil to absorb evenly.
It’s nearly mop and bucket stuff in reality. You don’t need to sand if just re-oiling.
I used to manage wood flooring retail shops.
