Cannot Get To Element Of Oven

Post by dgulliver » Fri Mar 23, 2018 7:04 pm

Hi,

Our oven tripped the consumer unit yesterday, switched back on and all seemed ok until we went to use oven today as it will not warm up so I assume the element is gone. The problem is I cannot remove the backing plate to expose the element and fan as the screws won’t budge even when using wd40.

Any other suggestions on how I can remove the plate.

Thanks
Darren

Try a screwdriver!

Couldn't resist that one.

Have you identified what type the head of the screw is for definite? Is it a Pozidriv or a Phillips head, (or something else)?
One day it will all be firewood.

Lol, it’s either a hex or star, tried both.
Might have to get a ratchet driver

This any use?
Fret not, a forum is a collection of opinions. Above, are mine.

Which is correct? Metre or Meter? Click the link to find out more.

Working on anything electrical? have you got a multi meter? why not? Would you hit a nail with a shoe?

If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Thanks someone-else, I found this video while at work so I know how to take the plate off but the screws seemed to have welded themselves in place making it hard to undo.

try some gt-85, asda's even sell it - that will degrease and penetrate a lot better than wd-40

edit. iirc it will be torx head screws, being bosch/neff and german it maybe a security torx (torx screw with a center pin)

Cheers bob, yeah was a torx, got one screw out in the end but the other two were just welded, I have some gt-85 somewhere, damn should of tried that before drilling them out [emoji31].

Now just need to remove fan as the element is a half moon and the screw to hold in place is behind that [emoji849]

Thanks again everyone.

Been fighting with fan for 2 hours now. It won’t budge, the nut is off as is the washer. Sprayed with degreaser left for about 15 mins, even thought wire wool to clean with, still won’t budge. Don’t want to pull too hard in case it damages the spindle/motor.

Looking at another video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QGurNvbI0Q
It looks as if the fan "boss" is just a hole in the pressing.
If it's like that, then it probably is just stuck on the shoulder of the shaft behind the fan. Oxidation probably.
Have you tried putting freeing oil down the back onto the shaft?
Sometimes a light tap with a screwdriver handle or something can free things up. But you have to be careful.
