strange Mold or Fungus growth

Hi All,

just found the forum very excited to poke around, and hopefully contribute...

Could someone offer any opinion on some strange growth I've just found while removing some ply wall panels?

At first I thought it was expanding foam, but alas not softer and mushroom like in texture and dry?

Yikes, looks like dry rot!

Oh just searched the hell out of that and couldn't find any definitive answer on whether it was hazardous to health (plenty on the hazards to buildings thought!)

Any idea?

Look for dry rot as has already been said.

Dry rot nasty stuff...is it hazardous to health, well it is when the house falls down...

as I see it you have 3 options

1) rip aout any infected wood, treat all surfaces within about a metre with something like this https://www.screwfix.com/p/sika-sikagar ... 0wodvJMCBA

replace wood with new and treat again.

option 2) board over and put the house on the market pronto.

option 3) make sure you have adequate insurance and accidentally burn the house to the ground.

* options 2 and 3 are not really options.

Well a fairly scary day! Thanks for the guidance I've stripped out every bit of wood in the area you can clearly see it's dry rot, it seemed to effect about 500mm of batten on the wall and the door frame, which looks to be the source of the moisture.
Door frame, batten and cladding all now burnt, cieling is also down no sign of anything there and all dry (although I guess touch isn't the best indicator).
I've done a hell of a lot of work since I bought it 6 months ago so not totally keen on the fire option

Some treatment next I guess.

From memory, if the place is well ventilated you do not see the "mushroom" but the rot can still be there. You need to read and figure out how far back you have to go from the visible signs and the same for treatment.
