wood floor.. poured concrete over wood sub floor?!
Can anyone identify this & how to remove it?
I managed to crack a few tiny 2cm few pieces off with an SDS chisel but it took a good hour. It's about 17mm thick
Although it looks like concrete SDS chisels don't seem to crack it apart.. they mostly just sink in.. and then go through the wood subfloor!
It's also full of nails inside the material itself hidden beneath the surface.
It almost looks like concrete poured over nails but maybe I'm wrong!?
Thanks

I will make no guess as to what you got. But there are a couple of bits that may help:
a. an SDS bolster which should have a bit of a curve to it (cranked?) e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Toolzone-Plus- ... B000V9IXE0.
And whilst I was trying to figure out what is the thing above called I came across this:
b. http://www.toolpak.co.uk/sds-max-floor- ... hisel.html
Just a couple of ideas until the cavalry comes along.

I too would not like to guess at what you have got!
But if it was mine, I would want to know the just what this floor was made up of so I could consider just what to do with it!
I personally would mark out a "Test hole" approximately 30cm square and remove it, cutting down through the 'Sub floor' you mentioned.
Only by knowing what you are up against, can you decide just how to proceed!

I have already removed 30cm square of it, and still don't know what it is.davyp1 wrote:I personally would mark out a "Test hole" approximately 30cm square and remove it, cutting down through the 'Sub floor' you mentioned.

How does cutting through the subfloor & messing that up help me to know what it is? You've lost me there
I have a few more things to try.. after that.. I'm not one to give up usually but I'm on the verge of just laying laminate on top!

Hard to understand from the photos. Does it have lines to make it look like tiles? It could be cement (snowcrete) + a dye to make it the colour of clay tiles. It does not really matter, as long as you can get something that can get underneath it and separate it from the floor.
If you use the bolster running it parallel to the wooden floor, does it not get under the stuff to separate it from the wood (as opposed to going from the top down to the wood)? Just askin...

Probably the SDS drill is too small. I have an older version of thisTitan and it will take that out in no time.

Bit of a job to tell by the photos but, it could be asphalt tiles glued down to the boards, if it is then they can contain asbestos.

why are you taking it up anyway? if it is that solid can you lay your new floor on top of that?
