Does this look like damp?

Post by DIY_R »

Hi,

I've attached 2 photos of my kitchen wall. On the other side of the wall is the outside. I've recently noticed 2 patches high up on the wall. In these patches the paint appears to have a layer of what can be best described as 'fizzy looking paint' (see close-up photo). This fizz can be wiped off with the paint underneath looking ok. There are no damp patches in the ceiling or below this.

I appreciate you can't comment on where water is coming from - I'll investigate. But just wanted people to chime in and confirm this appearance would be due to water damage.

Thanks.

It's flaky as seen in the close up photo. You can possibly see where I've swiped a bit of it away with a finger. The paint underneath remains intact though.

a Damp meter is nothing but a glorified multi meter, I wouldn't waste money on one.
To check for damp why not put a piece of paper on it and see does said paper darken, if it does, its damp, but it does look like some sort of crystal.

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
