Best hammer drill for going through ceramic tiles

I'm looking to replace my old hammer drill that finally gave up the ghost this weekend. I am currently installing a bathroom and need a drill that can go through tiles without shattering them. I am a bit confused by the SDS plus drills (i.e. Ryobi ERH-750V 240V 3kg SDS Plus Hammer Drill from screw fix) as I have an SDS drill and the hammer action is so strong it shatters tiles. As the bathroom is all tiled and grouted I don't want to even try using this.

Would something like a Ryobi ERH-750V 240V 3kg SDS Plus Hammer Drill be ok or should I look for something else??

You should be able to take the hammer action off, fit and sds chuck, then any good tile drill, I like the arrow drill bits for tiles, there ain't much they won't drill, or go for a diamond drill.

i like using the bosch multi construction bits, i use 1mm oversize to the plug drillbit in cordless driver

then can drill with hammer drill slowly in backing material

if you are drilling through tiles, I would certainly take hammer action off. Those drill bits speed noted are good but I have never had a problem with ordinary masonary bits on ceramic. I give it a squirt of water and let the drill bit crunch away on slow speed but if I have the multi construction ones to hand, all the better. The sharper angle head is quicker

Put a bit of masking tape on the tile first to help it stop slipping as you start the hole.I like the bosch multiconstruction too.Use them for metal as well as masonery.

Just a note to thank you all for your help here. I wasn't able to get the multiconstruction bits but I did use some tile bits and the hammer action off. Worked like a dream

tile bits are a must in any tool box! Always drill with tile bits then use normal masonary after. If you are slow and careful you can use a normal masonary bit on tiles but there is high chance it would crack the tile.

PS - tile bits arent much from a local hardware store.

Enjoy
