i have been asked to plane a few mm off the bottom of a door that is catching on a threshold. whats the best way to do this? cheers.
ps i have done it before with electric planer but damages paintwork sometimes.

doors
I had all the doors done in my house and boy did it take some time, the doors and frames had to be ripped out and new put in on just two doors it cost me £30 and i had to buy the doors/locks/handles and that was just on two, the house looks much better now that the new doors are on, please done try it your self, jim dale

If you have to take off more than 5mm then use a hand saw or circular saw.
Under 5mm can be done with a hand plane or power plane.
As mentioned in the previous posts scoring the door with a sharp stanley knife will prevent chipping. If the door is vennered this is essential!
Planing the door woood be easier with a power plane just take a bit off at a time.
