La Fille du regiment

Post by Stoday »

Joy of joys I found an opera on BBC4 this morning.

La Fille du Régiment. Sung in French.

This opera is famous for nine high C's in one of the arias. Pavarotti is the master of this; today's version had Juan Diego Florez who is not as good.

This clip has this aria sun by both so you can compare them. Pavarotti wins by a mile IMO.

what odds on Hoovie the opera philistine bypassing this link entirely
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Pavarotti had a great talent.

I'm not crazy about opera but I do like the more rousing stuff. Carmina Burana by Orff and Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries are stirring examples! :thumbright:
Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!

The Ride of the Valkeries is about 5 minutes of the 4 opera group "Der Ring des Nibelungen", which lasts some 16 hours.

Brünnhilde is the chief Valkerie but she's running away from her dad Wotan, the chief god. He's going to chastise her for disobeying him (by making her mortal).

Wotan might be the chief god but he's got a wife, Fricka, who's a right pain in the arse; she keep thwarting his schemes because they are morally dodgy.

A great opera that took Wagner 26 years to write.
