Hi Everyone!
I have just moved into a 2nd floor flat and in the process of replacing the carpets which were badly worn.
I have lifted the carpet and there a long one (exterior) wall the underlay was damp to the touch - not soaking but definitely not dry.
The concrete may also be a little damp but much less noticeable than the underlay.
There are no bathrooms within a few meters of the wall.
Is this something to be worried about? I don't want to lay a new carpet and underlay if there is a problem that needs sorting.
Thanks in advance!

Sort in advance, a picture or check of outside wall for any reason ie drain pipes etc.
Were carpets maybe cleaned prior your take over?

Re: Damp Concrete Floor - 2nd Floor Flat
I will check outside for anything obvious tonight and let you know.
It is possible the carpets were cleaned but i don't think they were (i have thrown the old carpet out now so i can't verify).
When i looked round the flat prior to moving there was a clothes rack in the corner of the room where the underlay was most damp which means it could be possible that the previous owner dried their clothes but i am not sure whether a) they did or b) this could cause enough water to wet through to the underlay.

That was my first thought, carpet shampooer ...aeromech3 wrote: Were carpets maybe cleaned prior your take over?
However to check whether there is an issue with the floor itself, pull back the underlay in the worst affected areas, leave for a day or two.
Tape down a 30 x 30 cm piece of plastic/film leave for a day or so. Is there any condensation on the underside of the plastic ?
NO. just replace underlay and carpet.
YES. there is an issue.

electric or gas heating ? In modern flats they love to put pipe work into the walls is the bottom of the wall damp ?
dry it out with a heat gun and see if it comes back
