What cable is this, is it suitable?

It did feed the garage on a catenary wire from house. When builders fitted a new roof I could hear them hammering and with one hammer blow the power went off, 32A MCB 30 Ma RCD and 13A fuse all went, tried new fuse it caused a repeat in spite of open circuit showing on clamp-on meter set to ohms. Renewed with 2.5 mm flex and all up and running again.

Tested when I got insulation tester and old cable shows 160 Mohm so pulling it out of hole has cleared the fault. However clearly a fault there, inspection I find one area not round so assume hit there with hammer, but just not sure if this cable was suitable for what it was doing? Looks like a shielded cable for a camera or some thing not a main supply to garage.

Any external markings on the cable - it would be unusual for there not to be....?

Is it foil wrapped or is it steel tape armoured ?

Foil wrapped.

It reminds me of cable used in the marine industry - easily capable of carrying the mains voltage but the added screening for interference suppression.

As already stated, there should be some marking on the outer sleeve identifying it.

Although black it seems this is one of the Doncaster cables firesure range. I can see Doncaster cables marked on it and firesure, however the writing is not plain enough to read the part number. However it would seem this cable was suitable for outdoor use, even if not ideal for hanging off a catenary wire. So down to builder to repair or replace not the electricial firm which is the info I needed.
