Painting lead flashing

So I’ve got some lead flashing over the porch on the front of the house that’s previously been painted black. Not sure what with, but looks Matt like the masonary paint elsewhere on the property. It’s peeling and unsightly. What’s the best way to treat this? Is there a special paint for lead flashing that would resist the peeling or should it just be stripped back to the lead and left to oxidise naturally?

Any ideas?

If you can get the paint of without too much trouble patination oil is the proper treatment for lead.
If you can clean it up with a brillo pad, wire wool or similar ( follow all the usual precautions common sense for dealing with lead) then treat it as you would new lead.
Hammerite special metals primer says all non ferrous metals so might work, but lead has "greasy" surface so things do not stick well.

It might well have been bitumen paint, see how it reacts to white spirit, should go soft and tacky again.
