Lining before paperling on a busy wall

Post by alandav123 »

Hi all, fairly experienced hanging paper, lining paper etc BUT am at the end of doing up GFs front room....3 walls painted mint but fireplace wall needs papering with a busy squirrel feature..pidgeons nesting etc....the wall has fireplace, large recess, different ceiling height as it runs into the staircase too so lots going on.
Due to it being an old house the plastered walls are a bit rough, so Lining paper is now here.
Now to decide horizontal or vertical...I think horizontal would be difficult due to all the tricky hazzards to get around, vertical much easier. I intend to offset by half a roll the joints so the finish wallpaper never meets a lining paper joint.......
If I butt my lining paper edges perfect is it otherwise a good idea to hang lining paper vertical for reasons Ive given....
I cant see why not but Im not a pro at this, just a good all rounder.....
Everythings laid out..just waiting to start
Thanks in advance

Hi Alan,
you already know what your going to do.
I know someone that hangs paper for a living. Hangs lining paper vertical all the time. he just makes sure wallpaper joint is offset from lining paper joint.
Have fun :welcomeuhm:

Lining paper is usually slightly wider than regular paper so it's highly unlikely that you'll have joins sitting right on top of each other. Apart from once, I have always hung lining vertically, and never a problem, either with the lining itself of the resulting wallpaper over the top.
