Hi,
Just building a retaining wall from oak. Having lining up the wood to check the fit over night there was rain.
This morning the wood has water stain marks,
I want to leave the oak untreated to age naturally but I'm not liking the stain marks that have appeared from the water running over the face of the sleeper.
Will these disappear over time or will I have to apply some light UV oil to stop this happening.
Picture showing this below.
Thanks
James

Looks like typical water staining on oak to me.
I'd just leave it as it is myself. It should age OK over time.

It’s the tannin being washed out of the oak, it will diminish over time.
If it looks bad just jet wash it , in a year or so it will start to look grey , no need to treat the oak usually externally.
Tannin is pretty crap stuff , it rots steel and even lead , so use proper fixings suitable for oak stainless steel or the special green ones.
Should look good when u finish it , we have two raised beds 1.2 x 7 metres each , out in around a year ago , jet washed them once, they are just beginning to weather nicely now.

Thanks for you replies, that is very helpful, and I have the stainless steel screws ready. I'll wait to see how things weather in.
