Great Billy Connelly joke that one, you were right big-all, they ramped the voltage up on these babies, 24v fully charged and thats the right expression for the effect it creates, my old blue circular saw was on steriods as I had to rip-down some 18mm ply down to protect the grass from the mini digger. The Chain saw did all I asked of it too whilst, being quite enough that nextdoor is still talking to me.

I'm not too sure about the Extreme Weather performance claim as it wasn't that cold down here at the weekend but, the P108 is light in weight (750g exactly the same as the 2.4Ah) but its no lightweight in performance, swapping between tools I got just over 5 hours work out of it at a reasonable DIYer pace. I'm not sure exactly how long it took to fully charge but it was done in 100mins but it wasn't after 60mins, this was using a 240v supercharger the BCL1418.

All in all very good performance as you'd expect, a little costly ? probably, not the only battery you should have for sure but, if you got a lot to do, its really handy to have. I think you could live without this battery if you've got a 6 way charger, plenty of mixed size Li batts and a power source close by but, if you're gonna do a full day without mains power available, a couple of these will be really usefull.

i say i am a cross between rabbi cultrain billie conallie :huray: :huray:

the greater the capacity the greater the charging time so 100mins is about right

give it about 50 mins i recon you will be at around 3 amps or 75% charge

thanks for taking the time to review the battery :thumbright:

Post by jmcp »

Hi,

It seems there has been a recall on these batteries in the states.

56000 a heck off a lot off batteries i wonder what percentage that is off total sales :dunno:
i assume its because they are trying to charge a battery on a charger designed for a 2.4 ah 1hr charge for a 4h assume near 2h charge

to be honest if you charge a 4 ah battery for around 1hr it will be around 75-80% charged so give 3-3.3 ah in the same time a 2.4 would be fully charged

I only came across it as I have some relatives going to the states for a holiday soon and I was hoping they could bring me one back so, I was searching to find who has them in stock and at what price.

Wonder if this is the reason they have not reached our shores yet.

Cheers, John

Hmmm. Bursting into flames on the chager? The first generation Makita Li-Ions sometimes suffered from that some years ago. It took a tightening up on manufacturing standards and a redesign of the charger to cure the problem I was told

Oh, I better pass this link on to people I sold them on to, not sure how the recall is gonna work for someone in the UK though.

Thanks for the info, I guess thats what you get now and then when you push the technology.

Just a quick note to let you know It was a particular batch that got recalled in Canada and has nothing to do with the ones produced for the UK market.

I see they've hit the UK now, ryobi-direct.com for £75 plus P&P or grab 2 & free P&P

I have no connection with ryobi-direct.com but, I have brought a few items from them before and found them to be very good.

Just bought a new 4ah battery and its in the charger as I'm typing. Hopefully I'll survive the night to review it (no fires or explosions like across the pond!).

Bought it because I have a few ryobi tools now and wanted the greater capacity away from 240v.

Has anyone tried this new battery with the grinder? I have the grinder and out of all the tools this is the one that is horribly under powered. I was wondering if the extra volts/amps helps any?

I'm using the charger number BCL 1800 for reference. One of the older black chargers for Li batts.

Cheers all,
Paul.

heeelllooo and welcome paulthepunk :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

you wont get any extra power over any other battery that holds a full charge it will just run for longer

you will off course get an improvement over say a 3 year old battery as it will be on a reduced level volts and amp wise

they are supposed to be charged with the new green charger
