you can get it on ebay and although it has one less contact than a normal li-ion battery it will charge in a normal li-ion charger

greater ah is just longer run time
imagine the 18v is the engine size and the amp hour[ah] as the fuel tank

Thanks, I understand the fuel tank bit but how do they get away with the extra power claim, its a US claim, they are usually really tough on that kinda advertising in the States. Link provided

the only way you can give 35% more power as in more torque is to increase the voltage or improve the efficiency off the motor
as the motor is the same it would require the batteries to be 24.3v
now normal 18v batteries will charge to around 21.6v or 20% on a 1hr charge routine
perhaps they are combining the fact that a lion battery is around 20% more efficient than a nicad wasting less off the stored power through internal discharge on top off the higher actual charge voltage to give the 35% more

as an aside this is why some 10,8v stuff is called 12v as 10.8 +20% is nearly 13v and the new dewalts are called 20v in america and 18v here

all lion cells are 3.6v so the ratings are 1=3.6/ 2=7.2/ 3=10.8v/ 4= 14.4/ 5= 18 /6=21.6 / 7=24.2/ 8=28.8v/ 9= 32.4 /10= 36v

Hi,

I think they are saying that the 35% performance increase is not in power output but with regards to the battery performing longer compared to the 2.7ah battery that they sell in the states.

Cheers, John

Al/John

I think the only way to really tell for sure is to get some of these bad boys into the UK and see.

I'm refurbing 30M of round top 3ft picket fence this winter, a £100 local collection of ebay purchase, I'm stripping it right back to smooth with the Ryobi 18v CPL180M and then sanding. I'm going to seal it Cuprinol Wood Preserver Clear, leave for 3-5 days and then apply Cuprinol Garden Shades in Pale Jasmine to finish it. It won't be brilliant white but, it won't be far off and it ain't going to take the vast amount of maintenance generally needed for a white picket fence in the future.

With that amount of planning sanding, mulitple trips to the charger are not required hence a couple of these P108's backed up with my old BPL1820's should make lighter work of a pretty time consuming job, then as a Postie I do get some spare time every afternoon for such projects.

Great news, I still can't find these P108's on the bay but CBSpowertools.co.uk is expecting them in the UK March/April, they've yet to get back to me on pricing but, I'm not expecting any change outta £100 for the 4Ah. What do you think ?

the strange thing is ryobi li-ion batteries seem to be more expensive on some off the big boys batteries
suspect an extra few months and a bit off competition will bring the price down

people wont buy the batteries or tools if they are to expensive they will just go for the big boys toys
indeed the american website says compatible or similar to nicad prices

I think I may have go early with them, got a lot of sleepers to edge some curved flower borders, which will give my new toy (Ryobi P542) a workout.

I'm actual gonna use the sleepers to cover a 4' deep french drain leading to a non-return valve fitted to the top of broken soil pipe, we're at the bottom of hill in sandy soil, Christmas Day we were only 1/2" (its just the ground water level not drainage issue) from the top my daughter's garden playhouse. I wouldn't mind but the wife insisted on carpeting it inside.

Big-all,

I had them about a fortnight, I sold a couple to off-set the costs, they worked out £307 with all the import and VAT costs, got a bit lucky they came USPS, a bit slower but, Parcelforce deal with them this side and hence its only £8 shipping agent charge.

Mine is on charge and will be used over the weekend so, I'll let you know a bit more about it Sunday/Monday.

ok cheers
a 4ah battery will give you slightly more than double 2x2ah batteries not a lot but you think off a battery that's reached the just not enough to drill that hole you then double that your off like a rocket for another 5% or so :huray:

look forward to your review :thumbright:
