Hi All. I’m trying to get more light into the middle room of my Victorian terrace. The doorway into the kitchen at the rear has no door on it so is just an opening & im wondering if I can safely just remove the bricks above so it opens up to ceiling height. It should let a lot more light in & will make it feel more like one big kitchen-diner but without knocking the walls through completely.
The joists run front to back and sit on a wall plate (?) that runs left to right and sits on top of the wall with the doorway. Am I right in thinking that’s the structural support & the bricks below can come out easily? Or am I missing something obvious?
