Drilling acrylic
Normally I use a blunt HSS metal drill bit for drilling acrylic, but today I could not be bothered getting them out of the van and so I tried the Bosch Multi-construction bits and they worked perfectly. You have to be careful when exiting the hole with a metal bit as you can easily chip the acrylic, but the Multi-construction bits went through no problems at all!

I always thought it was 'proper' to drill from both sides to avoid chipping acrylic

No, you don't have to.
You can normally go straight through from one side as long as you are not forcing the drill.
