How to "Fasten" 2 pcs of 6mm acrylic together

Hello,
I would like to fasten two pieces of 6mm acrylic together. The fastener needs to be decorative and strong, not to come unfastened with possible expansion and contraction, dealing with 6’ sections of material. Can anyone recommend a fastener such as sleeve nuts (post and screw) and fastening technique?

Edge-to-edge? Or at right angles? Can they lap?

pop rivet with a flower stuck in it...
All my advice should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt, all the gear, absolutely no idea whatsoever ;)
