BSP bore sizes

Post by ayjay »

I need to make a *U* shaped contraption with some 12mm stainless steel rod (unthreaded) and a pair of BSP threaded elbows (I don't need threaded elbows but it's all I've found on eBay so far).

I plan to Epoxy the rod into the elbows but am unsure what size I need.

I can get 1/8" - 1/4" - 3/8 - 1/2" - 3/4" - 1" BSP (and so on up to 2.5", but doubt I'll need anything that large).

What size is closest to 12mm to give a snug fit and leave room for some epoxy?
One day it will all be firewood.

There's a table here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Standard_Pipe

That's external threads I assume, so you want the minor diameter, which will be roughly the inside diameter of a internal thread.
So I make it 1/4 or 3/8 BSP depending on how slack you want it. Might have to run a drill into the 1/4"

stainless steel round bar or SS tube

do the elbows have to be threaded for something to screw into them ?

edit. what about a pneumatic elbow ? they are typically metric

The 14 mm of the 3/8" BSP is a bit slacker than I'd like - I may have to buy another pack of Epoxy!

I'll have to see if I can find some 5/16" BSP elbows.

No need for threads on any of it Bob, the threaded elbows I mentioned were the first I found.

I'll do some more searching later
