AVG is it worth keeping?

Post by someone-else » Sun Mar 01, 2020 11:30 pm

I have AVG anti-virus (free edition) but over the last few years it has become a PITA as it now says this is doing that, this needs cleaning etc. I understand why, its so that AVG can get money for another product, but as I have windows 10 i also get microsoft security essentials.

I also run (when I remember) toolwhiz (its a cleaning programme)

So my question is, do i really need AVG ?

Or do you still have AVG did you get rid of it, what have you now, or like me have you got MS SE?

Working on anything electrical? have you got a multi meter? why not? Would you hit a nail with a shoe?

Havn't bought or used a 3rd party security software since windows security essentials came out, never had a problem. 99.999999% of viruses etc are from user error.

Good luck at taking AVG off if you decide to!

AVG is it worth keeping?

AVG was my AV of choice until (very approximately) ten years ago, an update that they introduced slowed my PC to a crawl, (along with many others - I checked the net) and so I removed it.

I use Avast now, the free version, which can be annoying, as it frequently tells you to do this or do that, which all involve upgrading and paying - I just ignore those.

CCleaner (in the *Tools* section) has successfully removed any programme that I've asked it to up to now, and is also pretty good at it's main purpose.
One day it will all be firewood.

Changed over myself several months back, after years of using Comodo.
Windows own security is fine as you say.
One less thing to think about.

No don't use any Avast Avg CCleaner and so many other you don't need anymore
Windows 10's own security only regular updates and always backup your data

Not everyone has Windows 10: I run CCleaner every night, and SuperAntiSpyware every few days, between them they clear out loads of junk and tracking cookies that I'd rather not have clogging up my PC. Neither one has ever caused me a problem.
One day it will all be firewood.
