Halfords bike carrier New lock needed
I need a new lock for a Halfords bike carrier which was bought about 8 years ago. They have lost the keys. I have attached a couple of photos of the old lock. The barrel which surounds the key slot moves backwards and forwards with the key. The threaded part is 22mm in diameter.
Halfords customer service is useless. Any ideas anyone where I could get one?

It looks a bit like some garage door locks, (but they are likely to have some sort of lever arrangement on the inside which could possibly be removed). Have you tried a locksmith shop?
One day it will all be firewood.

Ebay or google.
Don't type in halfords (It brings up all the locks they do sell)
Both bring up loads of lock barrels, but as you have it and I don't you can measure it and add those to refine the search.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.
If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

Without knowing exactly how it works it's difficult to say, but this lock looks similar at the top part at least.
Might be able to make something of it?

The centre bit around the key slot moves to sit flush with the chamfered outer ring. A steep pin sticks out of the back of the lock and this prevents the locking mechanism on the bike carrier (tow ball mounted) from being released. It looks like it is spring loaded so when the key is used the cetre bit moves back to its position as on the photo.

(a) has it got any numbers on it ANYWHERE that might help identify a replacement key;
(b) who's "they" that have lost the keys, could "they" look a bit harder for them*;
(c) could you drill the rack somewhere and either, secure it with a padlock and/or a length of chain?
* I lost a key to my postbox for months over a summer, then when the weather got nippy & I needed my gardening fleece, found it in the pocket!

No ID anywhere. They are new neighbours who have lost the keys during the move and, fortunately, when the carrier wasn't locked. Padlock and chain is my fallback if a new lock is unavailable or too expensive.

In a similar situation with a bike carrier that was locked on the car and the keys lost ......... I went to a local locksmith who made me new keys. It took a little bit of adjusting until they fit smoothly, but they still serve us well, 10+ years later.
