Rebated glass

Post by Dave54 »

Yes, having given it more thought myself other than, "how to do this" it'll never look right stuck straight in, because we're used to seeing glass with a either a "frame" or a "bezel" as Walt suggests.
It depends the look he wants, but either the bezel, or just a simply rebated hole set back a few mm as you said Grendel (with a chamfer IMO) would look better IMHO.

Well when the dog comes back in it's scatterbag he'll know just how big the box is going to be and things will get moving. I'll even try to see if i can post a picture.
Thanks all.

Rebated glass

Hi All, I've just joined the forum. I'm the guy Grendel is talking about. I do tend to go with an initial idea and get fixed on it, but that's just me. FYI, I'm having a piece of acrylic cut to size. The guy assures me that, if I clean it right, It shouldn't scratch. I have to pick the ashes up tomorrow (and pay for the cremation) so I will know how big the box needs to be.

It sounds like an interesting project albeit generated by sadness. I would like to see the progress of the box and if you can post some pictures in due course that will be great. :thumbright:

Hi all. Well, I've finished it. I had to compromise on the lid, but it has worked out OK. Big thanks to Grendal who supplied the mahogany and cut it to size as well.

That turned out okay, I like the poppy, nice touch. Is there glass? It is so clear you cannot see it.

The dogs name was Poppy, she wore that on her collar. It is behind glass, I cleaned it with Isopropyl alcohol really well. I managed to put the collar in there as well.
