Advice needed for H glazing bars for small polycarbonate roof

Post by studmuffin »

Hi, would like some advice on a small polycarbonate roof I'm building for a log store and storage for a bbq and a couple of bikes...

Size of roof is 1m x3.6m, intending on using 3 H glazing bars to fix to pieces of 10mm poly roof sat on 4x2 rafters.
The H bars are 60mm wide, will they be okay to be sat on a rafter that is 44mm wide or should I double the rafters up ?

Thanks !

How far are the screwholes apart on each side of the H bar? If too far apart you will have to angle the screws and this will make it very difficult if not impossible to slide the sheets in without knackering them and cause g leaks.

It is probably worth doubling them up, it will likely take you less time in the long run

Not normally BA, they follow the slope of the roof so the rain can run off

@chop...

There are no pre-drilled holes in the H bar, the plan is to drill and screw 1 at each end and in the middle, over 1m span that will be approx 18inchs

There's two types, the ones where the H is moulded and sheets slide in and one where the H is in two parts and the top part clicks in.
If you can drive the screws in relatively straight you should be okay.

his is the H bar I'm using, its in 1 part so will have 3 screws through the center straight into rafter..

One side of roof will be up next to house, the other side will be screwed into another wall plate which will say on my garden wall, I'm wondering if i should fit the stop end bar like in the picture or if the other normal push on strips will do ?
