We keep getting offers to join a vibrating exercise machine studio. Strange but true! Apparently the machines vibrate so much that you get an hour of equivalent gym exercise in just 10 minutes on a vibrating machine as it works every muscle. I don't know anyone who has actually used one. Has anyone on here had a go? Do they feel like you've done anything?

Serious! :thumbright: The basic machines look like this one.
It's supposed to have been designed by Russian scientists for their cosmonauts and is set to be the next big craze.

The blurb
How VibroGym Whole Body Vibration Works

VibroGym works by rapidly vibrating up and down to create extra g-forces on the body. The vibrations also create a reflex contraction of the muscles that produces higher levels of muscle activation than can be achieved in normal exercise.

Because the vibrations travel through the whole body stability muscles, such as the abdominals and pelvic floor, can be stimulated while performing other exercises, thus helping to tighten the tummy while you sit or stand on the plate.

VibroGym only takes up only a small amount of space yet almost any body part can be targeted on the machine by standing, sitting, kneeling, lying, placing your hands on it, as well as an array of muscle relaxation, massage and circulation building functions.

Research shows that 15-minute workouts on the VibroGym deliver equivalent benefits to one-hour of conventional training and can improve body toning, accelerate fat loss, reduce cellulite, flatten the abdominals, create muscle relaxation, improve circulation and improve flexibility.

They have these at my gym, I had a bad knee once and used to put it on for a couple of minutes.

They seem popluar with the Ladies, but I don't know if they are effective or not as a means of exercise

That's the trouble I wouldn't mind a go on one but don't know whether it's just hype and a waste of money. I don't know anyone who has used one.

Good for sanding ive heard. Take the item you want to sand and hold in one hand then hold the appropriate grit paper in the other then switch on machine until desired finish is aqquired.

Dont use with paint stripper.

If you want a laugh watch the Youtube videos of people using one. It's like high speed belly dancing.

I have heard they work, but only if its part of exercise plan and diet, in which case why do you need the vibrating plate! I get the idea that they are good for very big people in the first stages of exercise to prevent them killing or injuring themselves, also at the gym all the lazy birds use it!

I'll stick with the long distance walking, swimming, exercise bike and gravity strider instead.

I think that is a much better option.

I have never been keen on these types of excercise machines. They used to make some machines that used to actually move you and these were supposed to be a form of excercise

Excercise should be difficult for it to work, I see people all the time at the gym sat on excercise bikes going as slow as possible whilst watching the tv, they go so slow that if they were on a real bike they would fall off. Strangely these people never look any different and some are a good 20 stones in weight.

totally agree with that Chez. i think it's so funny how some of these really fat people think they are doing a workout by sitting on it & watching TV.

i feel like going up to them and saying

"icecream, icecream, get your icecreams here"

mind you, you have to be old enough to know what i mean by that.

fat pigs trolloping over food thinking they can eat what they want and loose it by sitting on a bike machine going slower than walking ::b

as for vibrating machines... i have never understood the reason for designers looking for a way of people exercising without exercising. i just think it's all a con.
there are proved methods of training that go back to the dawn of civilization.......

Train until you sweat and eat properly. if you can't do both together expect the consequences. i'm fat and i know why but i except it cos i like to eat.

Paul Ross (bro of Jonathon) had a good line on this ...

If the hole in the top is bigger then the hole at the bottom, you're gonna get fat

 First one as far as I know! It's all in your mind John.

The postwoman keeps delivering junk mail offering Vibrogym courses, thought I'd ask if anyone had used one.
