Hi All.

I am in the process of painting the front and back doors. They are wooden with a metal capping on both sides.

I have removed the old paint and sanded them, filled in the low spots and dents with Bonda car body filler, primed the entire door as there were so many bare metal spots it was easier to do it all, and I have given it one coat of Dulux Weathershield. Trade Undercoat. I will be glossing it with the same Dulux, black gloss but I wonder if it is possible to then varnish the door to stop it chipping and give a higher shine? I'd like it as shiny as possible or is there a better way to get a higher shine?

Thanks So much

I can't say about varnish as it will not give a higher level of sheen than what could be possible, as far as chipping goes be more careful. For a high gloss finish see the following thread and follow my link to Dynamod's black door. japlac-enamel-gloss-for-exterior-doors-t90647.html

Thanks to you.

As I am doing the front door I am priming over the Bonda areas, then 2 coats of undercoat and then 2 of gloss. Now, what grade of sandpaper would you use on the undercoat between coats and the gloss between coats?

Also, I find the Bonda difficult to use, I'm sure there's an art to it but I find it hard to work. Can anyone suggest another good filler that is suitable for the exterior that isn't a 2-part one?

Thank you again

:dunno: I only ever use 2 pack filler externally. Wet and dry paper (fine) to de-nib between coats.
