I need to remove some of the sign writing on my van. I realise that using a hair dryer helps melt the glue, but what would be recommended to remove the remaining glue off the paintwork without damaging the paint work?

Dave,
Try WD40 on a cloth on a bit of the glue.
It removes the sticky crap left by stick-on labels on pans etc.
If it does not work, at least it will not harm the van body.

Auto Glym sell a Tar & Adhesive remover, which is designed for what you want, I used intensive tar remover to get the glue off my bike and it work OK, you may have to give the van a good polish with Super Resin Polish to bring the paint up the standard of the paint thats been protected by the stickers!!

My neighbour has been driving round in his ex- Royal Mail van with the crown clearly visible in the faided paint for years!!

Thanks dd36.

The paintwork difference is not really a problem as I am going to be putting a new sign on but it is a lot smaller, but will cover some of the same area.

It is not the main sign writing on the side thank goodness, otherwise I think it too would look like your neighbours

We use wallpaper steamers to remove the logos from our vans before they go to auction, this removes a lot of the glue at the same time, if you can put up with the smell (and the high) cellulose thinners will remove the remainder of the glue.

Hairdryer then goo gone.
Body spray also does the job on a lot of glues and doesn't f*ck up the paintwork.
