Hi,new member needs help.6 weeks ago (ish) we had a Valliant ecotec pro 28 combi fitted. All power flushed, magnacleaned etc...
At first it started losing pressure.went from about 1.6 to 1.0 in a week and seeing as I`d never had a combi before and I didnt realise it was a problem and topped it up.Then I saw the installer (local guy) and he bled/checked/tightened all the rads up.
Now it loses 1.6 to 1.0 a day and am topping up more. The installer is coming back on Tuesday (4 days away)I assume it is a leak under the floorboards :( am I ok til Tuesday or should I start looking under a few boards on Sunday? I don`t know where the pipes run under the floor though, any ideas?or should I wait til Tuesday?
Also as neither me or the installer knew about this beforehand is he obliged to look,or charge me? I assume it may need new chemicals back in.I dont mind paying, just interested.
Also I am on option 300 with british gas. With it being a recent install would they fob me off and are leaks like this even covered?

Unless the installer clearly stated in his written quote/contract that any leaks/faults in your existing pipe work/rads/system, then technically you could argue he should put it right for free.

If you pressurise the system to 2 bar, isloate the boiler with the flow and return valves under the boiler, then leave for as long as possible, say overnight, then if the pressure drops it will prove it is on the boiler.

If it stays up but drops when you open the valves, this will prove it is on the system side, but unfortunately not where it is.

Personally unless specifically excluded in the small print, I would say you should be covered under your BG contract.

Top it up to 2bar cold, and run your finger around all the rad valves and pipes, and any exposed compression joints.

I wouldn't expect it would be covered, but the installer, should have pressure tested the system first, and it wouldn't hurt to try it on as they so, as technically it's their fault.

ok thanks for that.Dunno if its related but when the heating is running the outdoor exhaust pipe he put on lets out plumes of steam.I always thought they just dripped occasionally. Is this another symptom or normal?

the pluming is normal and the flue should not drip, it should be at an angle so that any condensation runs back into the boiler.

ok,quick update.boiler guy came yesterday to show me what to do overnight i.e what gas for you said about isolating the system overnight.
When I got up today the pressure is off the bottom again. Is the boiler really at fault then? Its only 8 weeks old!
Also theres a row of lights at the bottom coloured red, yellow and green.Even though the red ones never been on Im sure the green one used to be lit all the time (but I could be wrong) but now doesnt come on at all.Any ideas? Are Vaillant a bad make or am I just unlucky (I usuallly am)

If the boiler itself is losing pressure then it can only be one of 3 ways.

1) there is a visible leak on the boiler
2) the prv is letting by, look at the 15mm pipe on the outside for drips
3) the main heat exchanger is leaking and the water is going out of the condensate drain. Although this is not a common fault, it is however quite a regular occurrence with Vaillants ::b
