I have just had a letter from Vaillant offering a boiler exchange deal. Apparently they will now offer an 8 year guarantee, extendable to 10 years for £100 extra, and they say you can save on breakdown cover which could be £1,400 over the period. No mention of the yearly boiler service?

My boiler is only 8 and running well so I am not interested at present but anyone with an existing Vaillant should be able to pick up the deal.

Any views?

Or you could fit an Intergas ECO RF with ten years warranty out the box and a far better boiler

I was wondering that the long warranties are good but do you have to have a yearly service? I am feeling a bit ripped off with Vaillant who have a scheme through bloody Homeserve. It does have a parts and labour cover and also includes a yearly service but I am paying over £20 a month now. I do get a proper Vaillant engineer but I need to think through what is best for me over the next few years. The next eight years or so will be the time where stuff starts to fail so I am not sure what is best?????

Yes Intergas do require that the boiler is serviced every year but it can be done by any Gas safe registered fitter it doesn't have to be done by us. In fact we try to promote the installer to do the work by sending out service reminders that have the installers name on them.

At present we charge £90 inc for a service as we had to put it up after complaints from some installers that we were undercutting them!!

I think I would go Intergas if we are still in this house when the boiler's service life is up. I am tempted to drop the service plan and set up my own repair fund with say £500 to start and pay in the monthly fee I currently pay to build it up. I have an ex Vaillant engineer who does private work now so he would service it it I guess. In 8 years I would pay in £2000 less service costs and repairs. But the gamble is if something really expensive goes I could be the wrong side of the deal. Hmmmm...........

What Vaillant is it DWD?

Could be one of the cheap re-badged Glow Worm pile of poo

They do not actually say Dave. I think it is for any existing Vaillant customer. You have to call a Vaillant number and they will arrange a survey, presumably to identify what boiler is necessary. The installation will be done by selected approved Gas Safe installers. It says 'on this scheme you get an 8 year guarantee on the new boiler which means that you will not require boiler breakdown cover for 8 years saving you over £1400 in parts and labour policy/maintenance cover charges. (Guarantees can also be extended up to 10 years for £100)'

No mention of annual service costs.

Without question Intergas is a better boiler than Vaillant. Had a lot of faults lately with Vaillant straight out the box. Their Home range(re-badged Glow Worm) are a pile of poo!!

In fact their best boiler is a Heatline!!
