Satin wood says its self undercoating. Just wondering if anyone still undercoats before applying satin wood ?

The more coats the better the job is my feeling. I use Johnstones aqua undercoat and it is a joy to use and gives a really nice base finish. Two top finish coats will give a wonderful look. If you are doing it yourself then time is of no importance and the more coats the better it will look.

No, unless:

1) Big colour change from original to white

2) New wood

3) I have to use quick-drying satin (only if the customer insists due to health issue, etc.)

In those cases I will use Dulux Trade quick-drying Primer / Undercoat and prime the woodwork before painting the ceilings and walls so the woodwork is then dry enough for the first coat of satin.
