Hello
Hope I'm in the right place.
I have a fibre optic Xmas tree which didn't work so I replaced the bulb but unfortunately used the wrong wattage bulb.
This has blown the bulb and the transformer but the motor is OK as I have tested it.
I have another transformer from another appliance and not having a clue about electrics would like to know if it can be used safely please.
Original transformer PRI 230-240VAC 50Hz 30Va SEC 12VAC Max 22VA
Other transformer INPUT 230V~50Hz AC OUTPUT 11.5V-...600mA.
Many thanks

Replacing a single bulb with one of the wrong wattage is hardly liely to cause the power supply to fail...... something else could be amiss.

The original transformer has AC output, the suggested replacement has a DC output. So, NO, it is not recommended to use the one you have. Too many accidents (fires) are caused by people using 'whatever' in place of the correct item. A set of new lights is often a lot cheaper than buying the 'right' transformer anyway so treat yourself and keep your family safe by buying a new set.

Thanks for your reply.
I used a replacement 12V bulb but 50W instead of 20W which worked for a while then everything switched off.
The transformer was very hot and the bulb had blown.
I tried the 'blown' transformer in my other fibre optic tree (Number 2) and it wouldn't work but the (Number 2) tranformer from the other fibre optic tree caused the coloured disc to go round slowly in fibre optic tree Number 1 so the motor is OK, I just need a correct bulb for it.
Could I buy a replacement transformer from anywhere?
Many thanks

The original transformer will have a thermal fuse fitted that has gone open-circuit. If you can get inside the transformer housing (never easy  ) you can change the fuse (FOR THE CORRECT TYPE) but this is often more difficult, time-consuming and expensive than a new transformer.

The transformer you are seeking needs a MINIMUM current output of 2A. A search via Google for a power pack with an AC output doesn't show much in the way of immediate results - sadly. I've probably got a few lying around in my scrap box but I couldn't get it to you this side of the festivities.....sorry.

Have tried to get into the transformer but it is solid I'm afraid.
I have had a quick look at ebay but don't really know what I am looking for or what to type in to search.
It is too late for this Christmas but if you would be willing to sell me one of your spare power packs/transformers which would be suitable (along with your postage costs of course) I would be eternally grateful and it would save me buying a brand new fibre optic tree at £50 for next year.
Many thanks

Sorry to bother you again.
Is your kind offer still available? My postal details have been removed from the thread by a moderator and I don't know if you got my last PM (or if I did it right). My PM's seem to get stuck in the outbox and won't go for some reason.
Thanks again
Andrew
