morning chaps i work in construction for a company but in last 18 months have started to do the odd basic courses in tiling and plastering and i am wanting to add the basics of plumbing to my skills cos i am finding more people asking if i could replace old bathroom suites etc,i have been told of a company called pitt based in newcatle under lyme which are supposed to quite good, just wondered if any plumbers could give me any feedback on the place.
Before you all shoot me down i know it takes years to become a plumber all i am after is the basics, cheers

In Notts you have Basford hall college and one in Mansfield called Gas Gain- think they both do plumbing :thumbright:

Do be aware that 99% of the 10 week and become a master plumber is a rip off.

Let's hope you only get into straight swaps (they never ever are) otherwise you will soon be out of your depth.

Whatever happens you will be learning at the customers expense.

I'm all for it though, more work for me.

Go for local college courses - these private training centre courses / trade centers are by and large a scam.

While you are learning, call around local plumbers and offer to work with them for free for a couple of days per month so you can pick up tips, learn how to oversome problems and observe a pro in action. Some plumbers will be glad of someone to do their donkey work for them gratis in return for some pointers and tips.

Not only will you get lots of 'real world' experiences but you'll also have a good contact to call on if you ever get stuck!

Just be sure to fully scope out any job, get right in and look at the state of the pipes etc before taking on a job - if it looks like it may be tricky call in your plumber mate and observe again. Sure he'll be glad of the extra work as well.

I've just finished a weeks bathroom installation at It was excellent, I learnt a shed load of stuff and am really confident about using different types of fittings, soldering and pipe bending.
They course has just started and the bathroom installation runs maybe once a month. The guy that runs the tiling place gets a plumber to come in and take the course, the guy is superb. He runs his own plumbing business so its right up to date.
I can really tackle a load of issues now that I just didn't have a clue about before. Id really recommend it.

it cost me £550 for the week. It was pricey however I used my newly acquired skills this weekend. It went from disaster to success. I'll post the full story as a lesson learned in a different topic.
And no it wasnt spam cause I thought the guy that ran it was full of himself and their plastering course is crap. Avoid that like the plague. And their tiling week course is 2-ish days of practical and the rest theory.
