Hi - we have one continual high level shelf in our new kitchen. Originally the electrician was going to install a pelmet light beneath the shelf. This light was to be operated via a dimmer switch on the wall. I've since asked if we can omit the pelmet light and instead have a light / lamp on the top surface of the shelf operated via the dimmer switch. I'm being told it's not possible but looking for some external advice. I appreciate that the strip would be low voltage however I would have thought it would be relatively straightforward to buy an alternative low voltage lamp and have this hard wired in? Or do these things not exist? Any help / advice would be appreciated! Thanks

Could you be more specific as to what you are looking for?
One time you say "lamp" another you say "strip"

If it helps,
You can't dim a "strip" of leds with a normal dimmer / LED dimmer

You can't dim most LED lamps

You can get dimmable LED lamps

Normal dimmer switches can not dim dimmable LED lamps

You can get a dimmer switch for LED dimmable lamps

Fret not, a forum is a collection of opinions. Above, are mine.

Which is correct? Metre or Meter? Click the link to find out more.

Working on anything electrical? have you got a multi meter? why not? Would you hit a nail with a shoe?

If gloom had a voice, it would be me.
