I have a 40 mm plastic pipe coming in, I somewhow need to clamp it shut to stop the flow of water so I can cut into the pipe further along and replace an existing on/off valve.

P.S. I'm living in Spain, the is 40 mm and is black with thin blue stripes along it. I've tried the clamps I have and they aren't strong enough to squeeze the pipe enough to stop the water flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you :)

you should be able to use a proper squeeze off clamp

https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Hand+T ... ool/p39855

There are heavier duty bits of kit

eg. https://www.reedmfgco.com/en/products/p ... off-tools/

your water supplier should be able to isolate the pipe for you

There should be a valve next to your water meter, wherever that is. Quite possibly, one either side of the meter, so that the water company can change it.

Are you in an individual property or a block?

At my friends house in Mallorca the water meter is quite some distance from his house and there is a meter cabinet where all the seven properties on his urbanisation have an individual meter and stop cock.

I do not know if this applies where you are?
