I was hoping to get some advice about building a concrete base for a 7ft x 5ft wooden shed.

The shed is going to be situated in a corner of my garden backing onto fences on two sides. I am planning on extending the base by 18" in these areas to allow access for maintenance. On the other two sides I am going to have the shed flush against the outside edges of the base. Is this acceptable?

My garden is full of clay and is at present very boggy. I am based in Glasgow and receive a lot of rain so I was wondering if I should put down a DPM to help prevent damp?

I plan on digging a square 8.5ft x 6.5ft and down to a depth of 6". After this I assume I need to put in some kind of hardcore, compacting this to make it level and then laying a DPM (or does the hardcore go in before the DPM?), finally filling it with concrete. When digging is it best to line the sides with wood (making sure this is level with square corners) and if so how much do you recommend the base should be above the surface of the ground?

I plan on having the concrete poured by one of those companies that 'Bill You' for what you use.

This is my first time creating a concrete base but I am a fairly expired DIY kind of guy and am looking for some sound advice on how to proceed. If any body can recommend a good tutorial or 'Step by Step' guide that would be great!

Many thanks in advance for your help,

I think it best to check with your planning office regarding the distance you need to keep the shed from your boundary. In Scotland I think it's one metre.
