Hi, those who know,

I was just cleaning the drain cover and feeling down the drain outside the kitchen to see if there was any debris and I found a heavy blue ball about the size of a tennis ball. The drain cover had been cut away (long ago) by about a quarter where, presumably, a downpipe used to extend down below the drain cover. I bought a new drain cover and took the ball out but am now wondering if this is some new wonder of the plumbing world that I should be leaving there.

When the previous tenant was in there last November a plumber was called after about two weeks because the outside drain was blocking. Any thoughts or advice on this would be gratefully received
:dunno: :?

Well, I definitely don't claim to know about every weird and wonderful plumbing product out there, but I've never come across anything like that down a drain, and can't think of any useful purpose it might serve. Think you did the right thing in getting rid of it myself (I'm guessing it was a child's ball, maybe from a bowls set if it was weighted)!

As an aside, I really don't recommend anyone googles for "blue balls, drain", at least not with SafeSeach turned off.

I'm 99% sure that Fido is missing a blue ball - the other 1% says it was a Heath Robinson type attempt at smell proofing the drain.

In my early days of internet use (when it was all still on dial up) I was more heavily into fishing than I am now, nearly all my spare time was taken up with fishing for Barbel.

One of the first things I searched the internet for was "Big Barbel" (cos we all want to catch bigger ones).

What I didn't know, was that Barbel is German for Barbara ..............

....................and by heck she was big.

This is what I was looking for, exactly 13lb 0oz. this one (but I'm not putting my phizzog on the net).
