I went up to London yesterday to support my daughter in law who was running in the marathon. She has trained hard all over winter (she is not a natural runner) and she was determined to do it. She has raised nearly £3k for the British Heart Foundation and she got in in five and half hours.

Runners are given a tracker which they tie on to their shoes and this allows the organisation computer to take you time at the start and the end so you know the actual time. But more than this is your supporters can load an App on their phones so we were able to track her position so we could see her at various points. It worked really well and we were able to see her a number of times during the event.

What a great event it is, we were able to travel around the rail and underground system easily and despite the huge crowds we were able to find spots to watch. The weather was lovely and in Trafalgar Square waiting for her at the end was really hot standing in the late sun.

A lovely day out enjoyed by thousands. There was clearly a lot of security about but all the Police, marshals, volunteers were enjoying it too and there was a carnival atmosphere. Thankfully no trouble anywhere I saw.

DWD

Well done to D-i-L DWD - a worthy cause and a very impressive means of raising funds for it :thumbright:

I've only ever seen the GNR and the atmosphere there is wonderful so I can only imagine how much more enlivened it would be with the hundreds of thousands in London!
