I have Screwfix vouchers burning a hole in my pocket so I've been looking at various tools etc to buy. It seems every time I fancy something at Screwfix it's a lot cheaper elsewhere. I also have a 15% off voucher my dad gave me so I thought I'd buy some of the Dewalt t-stack boxes that people have been raving about.

In Screwfix the DWST1-71195 is £40 with 15% off it makes it £34 but in FFX it's £27 and that's just the regular price.

Colin recently posted a similar gripe about fence posts which leaves me thinking they're getting worse.

par for the course I'm afraid, Its been going on for years, up the price for 28 days then offer discounts, online shopping is getting that way too, fri - mon its at a higher price - mid week it can be as much as 50% lower on trending items

so its worth checking out shopping sites like kelkoo, pricerunner and idealo

edit. some of these boxes don't come with a tote tray if that bothers you, that could be the reason for the price difference

Hi,

I used to like Screwfix and it used to be my favourite store Argyll but not any longer. I don't trust Screwfix special offers which as you rightly say can be bettered easily by shopping around finding them cheaper at regular prices elsewhere; I gave up on Screwfix a couple of years ago; I used to receive notification of special offers but each time I logged on it was a case of "Sold out". Screwfix operate zero hour contracts and it must cost them a lot to keep all their stores open seven days per week and for long hours each day; they have to make the money somewhere? I've never minded paying a bit extra in order to keep local stores open but I would be a fool to pay many of the Screwfix prices; I saved £100 on my Makita router by not buying it at Screwfix and even Wickes was charging around £100 more than I paid for it so Screwfix are not alone. It's possible lots of the cheaper prices are due to cherry picking; online sales where only certain items are stocked unlike Screwfix who stock thousands of different items; we pay for convenience and it is definitely handy to be able to pop over to Screwfix but it does come at a price. The fence posts I mentioned in another thread are just one example where a heck of a lot of money can be saved by shopping around.

Bron and I visited Poundland in Meadowhall this morning being in-store at around 9:30. Bron selected 8 items and we headed to the tills but not a single till was open; there was just a solitary young lady looking after the self pay machines; we stood there by the tills looking puzzled and the young lady shouted across saying we could use the self checkout points to which I replied "No thanks" I was about to leave the hand basket and contents and leave the store but this young lady said please wait and we'll open a till. We were then served at a till and other customers were now following us. As we left the store I spoke to the young lady saying sorry to be a nuisance but we never use self checkouts and don't intend to start now; the young lady was very pleasant and said she understood our feelings but unfortunately Poundland can't afford to man a till until the store becomes busy; it's cheaper to have this young lady looking after eight self checkouts. I'm getting more stubborn as I get older and I'm fed up of being used. How long before we all have a bar code on our forehead. Poundland now sell items costing up to £20? Customers these days seem to put up with anything without objecting.

Kind regards, Col.

It was the dewalt Facebook group that this stemmed from. A member put a post up about a dewalt bracket and stand for 1 pound with free delivery.....(obviously a mistake) 20 of us bought one before it was taken down. Give Howe Tools their due, they had 7 in stock and sent them to the first 7 that bought them and gave the rest of us a 50 quid voucher!!!

I ordered one from Howes on Wednesday and delivered yesterday. I can't recall dealing with them before but I certainly will again. FFX tools had the same item £1 cheaper but I then spotted it didn't included the tote tray while Howe's tools did.

I agree with you Colin about the Self-scan tills - and I like the chat with the human scanner as we scan and pack.
On DIY-scanners, I used the first ever self-serve Petrol pumps in UK in Plymouth in 1962 - they were less problem than today's supermarket produce DIY-scanners IMO.
