:thumbleft: ..... :salute: ..... :thumbright:

I may well be 'underground' replacing old, smelly and broken drain pipes (Circa 1920s), so may have to catch it later.
When the 1953 film finally reached the wilds of 'my' small town in north Wales, it was
Classified 'A' = 16s and over, or 14-16s (?) accompanied by an adult.
The last time I saw it advertized as being on UK TV it was daytime and not even a 'Parents' Guidance'. :?

I sometimes find myself in two minds with the film. In one respect it's the original and something of a classic but on the other hand it's not that close to the book. Even so it's still better than the tom cruise effort .

BBC Radio has gone Mars Mad - every other prog on R4 seems to be about Mars in some way or other.
Do they know something I don't?

There was an interesting to me 'take' on exploration by some pundit on R4 = he reckoned that in case after case once a seemingly impossible new place had been reached, interest was lost and the next target was pursued with vigour.
The lack of interest in the Moon was quoted. Certainly, all the plans for huge bases for research and mining of precious resources have sunk into the Moon dust. -Bits of Moon rock are about as popular as yesterday's chips.

WoW
Whilst I was reading the text you sent me, I got a message from ??? asking if I wanted to allow an unknown some-one/thing to communicate with me and have access to my Inbox.
Waving Bye Bye to Charles Chilton, Dan Dare and Jet Morgan, I exited the site before I could watch the authentic evidence from Buzz Aldi.
Better safe than sorry.

By-the-way I read that one of The Donald's chums has declared that
# CO2 has nothing to do with climate change
# the Earth is flat
# planet Earth is around 6 000 years old as calculated by James Ussher (4 January 1581 – 21 March 1656) the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland
# Dinosorearses co-existed with the family Flintstone until The Donald defeated Og-Bam-Ah in a fist fight.

Being brought up as one of the very few 'English / Cythrel Sais' in a hot bed of hatred of ALL English, [north Wales - which is NOTHING like south Wales] 'we' got used to being 'selected' for special attention - until we learned the principles of 'Co-Operation'. :idea1: .... :idea1:

:boxing: ..... :boxing: .....,. :boxing:

And the Nikita Khrushchev protocol.

Radio 4 seems to be turning into the sci-fy channel with more offerings. This Sunday afternoon it's the turn of the classic Journey to the Centre of the Earth.

So I'm told by the Beeb, every 1/2 hour - and not only that but there will be a specially commissioned MUSIC sound track.
WHY BBC R4 insists on playing 'mood enhancing' music to accompany the spoken word I don't understand. They even have such during NEWS programmes.
It's possible that BBCR4 has been taken over by an intelligence from another universe, and this SciFi music enhanced regime is a softening up process to make us compliant for an invasion from Planet Trump

Since we in the Lower Pennines (Wool side) are experiencing an early onset of April showers brought about by ACC, I've just now taken the opportunity to listen to both episodes of BBCR4's adaptation of
"War of the Worlds"
rather than installing my Wharfedale Farmers' Auction and Mart's 'supplied' sheet metal guillotine, and ditto folder.

What a dreadful adaptation and dramatization. (The play, not the guillotine and folder.)
Typical of the outsourcing which Aunty has been forced to do by Gov't edict.

That doesn't instill me with much potential joy. Hoping to listen in the next couple of days before it disappears and now I know it's woeful :cb

I must confess to not having read the book or don't remember having read the book, but having now read some summaries of the original there seems to have been some quite un-necessary changes in certain details for no obvious reasons. Not even MacGuffins as far as I can fathom.

Did you manage to catch Resistance ?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08g7y1

A contemporary take on a familiar theme where the world's population becomes somewhat reduced.
The section dealing with the total collapse of society is rather short, with the concentration being on the inability of those supposedly in control to do other than try to save themselves - shades of the chain of Regional Seats of Government (RSG) reserved for The Great and the Good in Cold War days.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regional_Seat_of_Government

At 3 x 45 mins a long listen, but worth it IMO.
