hello!

i have put in a double galzed window and had to remove the 2 reveals
and the reveal across the top...
when redoing the reveeals i have bonded out the 3 sides and put corner bead
mesh on and 3 sides...

the question is... i have the mesh just against the old plaster and was wondering if that is ok?
i mean is it ok to go skim it and just blend the plaster into the wall :dunno: ... this will bring the new plaster 3 inches or so from the corner of reveal to blend the mesh into the wall... sound ok or should i have cut off more plaster so as to get the corner bead back into the wall so as to have the palster flush with the original plaster work? :dunno:
i hope not as corner beading is on

would really appreciate some help

If the bead you're talking about has about a 2 inch wide mesh, then you should of chopped the face plaster back and set the bead out flush with the original face plaster.

and the mesh across top! the skim wil hardly hold that up!

the original wall is skim bond n block so if i try o nail/screw it surely a lump of old plaster will just fall off! :?

If your house has cavity walls then you can stick your beads on / up using finish, you put blobs on about the height of your hand in length
so for a 3 foot bead use 3, one nr top, one nr middle & one nr the bottom, the blobs got on both faces of the corner and just out further than
your bead needs to sit, press your bead in to the plaster and set it up right and flush to the old plaster, you may need a nail to stop it slipping
if your plaster is a little to soft or you have to set them out a long way, so put some nails and a hammer on your window board in reach,
when your beads are on use a wet brush to smooth out and clean back the edge of your beads.

you stick them with finish, the nail is only to stop them sliping if needed,
just tap the nail in enough to stop the slip if you need to, when your finish has gone firm pull the nail out.
if you have the wide beads you need to chop the old plaster off where the beads are to go, cut it back about four inches
from the edges.

ah yea i get you now... il just tap in a couple of nails to keep the bead from falling

also i will take the beads down and cut the paint/plaster off and put the beads
on again so as to have the new plaster finish flush with the old plaster

thanks very much for the help... having said that i will be skimming tomarrow and could
well be back asking how the fix something else i done wrong!

contract Im on at the minute is a mix of plastering / joinery and ive got pinkgrip on tap...
its all im using for the beads, works an absolute treat and is ready the moment they go on the angle...
just run a bead of pinkgrip down both edges and press the thincoat bead into it, position corners, job done...

p.s. decorators caulk will do the same job, its just water based acrylic filler, just give it 10 minutes once theyre on..

all this just saves messing around with skim, just bead up, pva the lot and have the room out...
