Hey diyguys that link you've given to dm is for a drill driver not a combi drill oh & its only usefull if your screwing plaster board up & carcasing anything else & the batts run out pretty quick.

Sorry, didn't notice that they had lithium batteries.

The Hitachi's I bought just had normal batteries.

Li-ion batteries are a complete waste of time!

I reviewed one here and compared it against a Ni-Cad battery and they were almost identical in performance.

http://www.ultimatehandyman.org/video/t ... y-test.php

I know that the Li-ion batteries are suposed to be able to be recharged more times, but I feel this is nonsense.

Just over a year ago we bought a acer net book, it is a great laptop. But the battery stopped holding charge, now bear in mind that the net book is not used every day!

The net book is just over 12 months old and the battery is completely knackered. I told the girlfriend to order a new battery for the laptop, when it arrived I unplugged the old battery and to my surprise it was a Li-ion :angryfire:

Now if Li-ion batteries are so good, like many of the manufacturers claim- why do they not guarantee them for longer than a Ni-Cad or Ni-mh battery?

My opinion of Li-ion is that it is a marketing scam :angryfire:

The lith batts have not been out that long so maybe you are right but the good thing about using them in power tools is that they are lighter and they say you can charge them at anytime which will not effect the memory. So are you disappointed the your new dewalt?

I have to whole heartedly agree with UHM li-ion 18v batts for dewalt suck balls big time! I had one for a 3 days & sold it on ebay for £80 for the simple reason that i have 3 dewalt batts which are 7 years old (2 ni-mh 3ah they came with my jigsaw) & a 5 year old (1 ni-cd 2ah batt) and they beat the li-ion battery with shear use and capabillity, e.g. When the li-ions get just warm they turn off & dont start again untill there cool, now thats a waste off time for the expence they are! But when using my ni-cd or ni-mh batts even if they get warm they just dont stop! & because they dont have a memory effect they've just kept going & going & going.........

I'd have to agree with styxsis on the staying power of the 1.5. I have the hitachi impact driver with 1.5 and it seems i have to charge every 15 mins. i also have the hitachi drill 18v with li batts and they are 2.8ah I think and they last a lot longer

I only used it the once, for the youtube video.

I'm definately not impressed with the Acer Li-ion battery as it is knackered, just after 12 months.
