Hi guys,
Iv bought a small 6 watt pond pump, the power source is your normal plug, but is there i way i can have a power source for it other then the mains? That isnt a generator.
I was thinking a batteries by removing the plug or somthing, or can you buy inverters that would hold a charge when charged up. cheers dean.

Why 'not' from the mains? This is the cheapest form of energy you can obtain - even taking batteries and other power supplies into account.

You could use a solar panel to charge a 12V battery and use the battery to power an inverter (of the sort usually found to power laptops from car lighter sockets) but the cost for the solar cell and associated battery/charging system would be such that you could power the pump directly from the mains for a year or more.....

by far the most efficient is to choose a battery and pump to suit the voltage off the battery
would forget solar unless you want a roof coverd cells

if you have a small shed going spare you could use that to house the batteries required t make it equivalent to the mains.

if you want the pump to be battery operated, you need to buy a battery operated pump, not mains operated. doing it this way you will either require a hell of a lot of batteries or require step up transformers etc.

none of the above would work out cost efficient so you would be fat better off buying one for the job.

easiest i would have said was to go to a scrap car merchants and get a windscreen pump, they are already 12V and will probably cost you pence.

Is the pump 6 watts or 6 volts?

As for a small DC pump for a pond a boat bilge pump would be just the job and 12 volts.

Motor will have two wires coming from it - possibly black and red.

Connect the black wire to the battery NEGATIVE terminal.

Connect the RED wire to one contact of the switch (a simple one-gang light switch will do).

Connect the other side of the switch to the battery POSITIVE.

Insulate, box, whatever - Job done.
