Hi guys hope someone can help I am converting the cellars starting repointing the walls and some are a little damp but not so bad...now I have what appears to be a damp course about level with the floor joists the problem is I think the paving on the outside is higher than the damp course at the back of the house should the paving be below this ? it is the original damp course and there have since been holes drilled for injection damp proofing but not sure when exactly so my question is do I lower the patio ? rather not but if it needs doin!!

Hi,

Yes it does need to be about 150mm min lower than the DPC, but instead of excavating and lowering the patio you could always dig a trench against the side of the house 250mm wide and about 400mm below the DPC and fill upto 150mm below the DPC with pea shingle so as to drain the water away

a couple of the air bricks are level with the floor also and they cant be moved any higher either as these are quite high and need them to let the cellar breath!!
