Morning Chaps,

i have a Stil 023 saw which has become a pig to start all of a sudden, it will fire into life after loads of pulls and then only run for a few seconds and stall. When you try and re start it the pull seems really hard almost as if it was seized.
Any ideas?? does it need a new piston and rings i just don't know any help would be appreciated.

When does it stall? when you turn the choke off? what if you leave the choke 1/2 way, does it run? what if you start it with no choke? does it have a primer bulb?

I'd guess dirt in the carburettor, or maybe a torn diaphram in the carburettor. Either way take it off, clean and check it. If you don't know the correct mixture adjustment settings start from 3/4 of a turn open on the slow runing jet and 1.5 turns open on the main jet.

I have spoken to stihl Uk very unhelpful, they have told me it sounds like a crank problem. Does anyone have a service manual for this machine so ican attempt to strip it down and try and rescuse my much loved saw.

I had something similar with my Ryobi chainsaw. In my case it was the gauze filter on the fuel pipe to the carburettor that was partially blocked. Once cleaned the chainsaw was back to normal.

As previously posted make sure the air filter and spark arrestor are also clean.
