whilst carrying out general chippy work in a house, i have been roped into finishing another tradesmans job.
he is from another country as is the client. i am quite clear on my work and happy with my time frames and standards. however as youve all probably aknowledging the fact that finishing someone elses work is almost always bad news, and today was exactly that!
chap comes in to cut out old doorway and fitted (attempted to fit) new door liner, but left plastering work and filling. so chappy no2 comes to block up doorway no2 and plaster board fill etc, then dissapears??
i spend all day today applying 3 litres plus of filler to doorways and try to leave as neat a finish to reduce as much work as possible when coming to sand down and paint.
but client questions why i spend so long?
my answer was simply that i will not produce shoddy work wether it be my trade or of another.
i am not at all experienced in plastering but my hunch was that it may have been better to of re skimmed over the top to obtain the desired finish rather than using fillers.
advice please

Hi pip,

To be honest i would bring the filler right out and rub down when dry as this will finish just as good as the plaster, if you skim over the top this will create more work and may not bond to the filler as well.
