Which way should it be used?
I always cut the top off and leave the rolled edge on the lid, and the sharpo edge on the tin...
Right way or wrong way?

I vote wrong - 100%
cut down into the lid, not across into the can - makes the tin floppy that way as well

Depends on the make of opener
Some are designed to use on the side others on the top
A very dangerous bit of kit, best left to OH exept in extreme cases of hunger

about 15 years ago I had the best tin opener ever! (and nope, not the OH, so maybe not THE best :) )
Instead of cutting the metal, it split the seal so there were no sharp edges on either lid or can and you could drop the lid back on top if you wanted to cover the contents for a while.
It wore out after a few years and could not get a replacement like it

I think that is the one. Many Thanks, blu

the sharp edges on opened cans are a real hazard, I reckon.
Bit like those cutting edges on clingfilm boxes - Yeoww! always remove the film and chuck the box away

My oh has a habit of leaving the can lid still attached and sticking up! So dangerous!

I'll ask the wife, it's not a mans job to open tins or cook.
Good job she never visits this site.
