Recessed fireplace with small wood burner approx 5'w 2'd 4'h with a 6" border onto wall. Back is to be left in natural stone, sides and border to be tiled. Client has 60mm x 30mm x 10mm tiles.

What prep should I do on the cement render (done last year so completely dry) and any advice on fitting these large tiles.

Any tips gratefully received.

Hmm, are you being sarcastic about the size of the tiles or else are they the 600mm ones ?

I'd just seal the render with which ever primer your adhesive manufacturer recommends and then get tiling

Sorry, me & metric - 600 x 300 x 10!

Not the ideal size for the job but the Wifie has a whole stack of these as a freebie.

Just that I've come across references to tile weight vs substrate though logically cement render should hold most anything.

sand and cement render can hold approx 32kg per square meter and so should be ok.

You might have a lot of cutting to do with such large tiles.
