Hi all. What's best to use on a new chipboard floor before tiling? Hardi, ditra or another primer/product. Going to fit porcelain floor tiles about 300mm square. Also bathroom wall painted with silk paint, whats best to prime with or do before wall tiling.

Many thanks for your advise.

I tiled an area of wood floor about a year ago. The floor comprised of tongue and grooved floor boards
over laid with 6mm ply screwed down at 150mm centers.
I used Unibond adhesive with excellent results.

Although the painted wall is a different proposition. Perhaps an email to the manufacturer Unibond?

I always use one of the 6mm cement boards to overboard the floor with, either Hardi, No-more Ply or similar.

What tiles are you fitting to the walls?

Hardibacker or "no more ply" (note no-more-ply NOT ply)

The addy linked to above is no good for your purpose, it dries via contact with air. you need a flexible cement based addy.

as for the walls give them a rub down with a heavy grade of sandpaper, score the surface with an old blunt chisel or similar. coat with blue grit (google) then the same cement based addy. Topps tiles own brand is good if you are on a budget. Mapeii is my favourite .
